Simply put, mastering is the process of preparing and organizing your music for mass distribution.
Mastering is both an artistic and a technical process so in order to understand it, you need to examine it from both perspectives.
From an artistic viewpoint, there are usually a number of things that can be done to improve the sound quality of a recording.
When I say "improve", what I really mean is that the audio is being modified in order to make sure it translates well in the outside world.
I never have borders to do so, i use everything and test all for better.

Let me say up front that I am not a mastering engineer.
I am a composer and sound developer.
I try every tool I have and tweak it to find new sounds.
Finalizing everything form tiny samples that last a tenth of a second to my own epic pieces.
I have learned a few things, Human Ears are good (hopefully), but get fatigue.
Computers and software do not. Not the fact that i rely on my hearing, i do use software like AAMS to control and the analyzers / charts to view what is happening.
My eyes and ears i use now!
To me this gives me a greater and better understanding of mixing and mastering.
And i do jobs faster and do not get so tired!

I do videos"for SoundCloud" and "for YouTube".
I follow in AAMS the recommended best practices for Mastered for iTunes though, which (in my view) apply to any lossy format.
So i setup AAMS DSP-Loudness for dynamic range to be -10dB.
Such as avoiding clipping and distortion, and keeping peaks below -1dBFS.
Benefit to improving your sound on SoundCloud and YouTube, is that you will be achieving better recordings mixes, too!

Like me i unknown to what is called mastering.
I do DJ stuff and sometimes i make songs tracks.
It is more of a grown hobby.
I use the internet as my stage.
So i found AAMS on the net and still i am using the Freeware version.
Hope to buy soon.

Music production in my country is tough.
High Quality is needed for low prices.
The amount of hours in the studio or even at an home studio is money spend.
AAMS is a timesaver, does a fairly good job and is fast easy.
Get more time into mixing then mastering, AAMS does the mastering 4Y!
I am very satisfied in how AAMS shows results and the main thing is quality sound.

Read the manual if you do not understand this software, it is good but misunderstood.
Do a test at least with one of your bad tracks, push it trough with one button mastering AAMS frontpage.
And hear the results! Then you can say anything about this software...
Because i was not in there first, but i test every software before i recommend it or not.
AAMS does the job!
